Malaria is a disease caused by Plasmodium parasites, spread by Anopheles mosquitoes. The parasite enters the blood, and then travels to the liver before re-entering the bloodstream and infecting red blood cells. If untreated, malaria leads to severe illness and becomes life-threatening.
